Dementia is a chronic and progressive disorder, that has major consequences for the life of the patient ánd their caregiver(s). Sometimes the patient does not report any complaints, while the people in their vicinity are wondering what is wrong. This contrast can create chaos.


At the memory clinic, state of the art diagnostics are used to investigate the patient's memory complaints. Importantly, also the needs, abilities, and burden of the caregiver are mapped out. This is called 'care diagnostics' and is a crucial part of diagnostics, since this for instance also largely determines when a patient has to be admitted.

After diagnosis
The Alzheimer Centre Nijmegen stimulates best possible care for Alzheimer's patients, for instance by developing new care programs, but also by encouraging the use of existing programs that have proven effectivity for patients and caregivers.
